CUET hosts annual tech exhibition to showcase student-led research and innovation

Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) transformed into a hub of innovation this Friday as it hosted “Cyblitz,” a two-day national-level technology festival. Organized for the second time by the IEEE Student Branch at CUET, the event brings together approximately 450 students from 52 universities across Bangladesh to showcase cutting-edge research, competitive coding, and creative engineering solutions.

The festival commenced with an intensive hackathon, where participants utilized artificial intelligence and machine learning to address real-world challenges. Throughout the day, the campus floor became a collaborative workspace, with students refining complex code and testing sensor-driven hardware as judges evaluated their technical research and methodology.

A significant portion of the exhibition features projects centered on embedded systems and automation. Participants are leveraging advanced development boards, including Arduino and Raspberry Pi, alongside sophisticated sensor arrays and Internet-of-Things (IoT) integrations. Notably, several medical technology projects were on display, capable of performing blood analysis, monitoring vital signs such as oxygen levels and blood pressure, and providing automated diagnostic recommendations.

Parallel to the technical showcases, the event features the “STEM Bee” competition, designed to test students’ proficiency in complex scientific terminology and concepts across science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The afternoon session shifted focus toward professional development, featuring industry leaders from Siemens and BRAC IT Services, who briefed students on the essential skills required for success in the modern corporate landscape.

Fardin Shah Azmi, a program coordinator for the event, stated that the initiative aims to bridge the gap between academic theory and practical innovation by fostering a culture of research among students. Participants like Fahim Bin Zaman, a student at the Bangladesh University of Professionals, praised the organizing committee for the disciplined execution of the event, noting the value of the cross-institutional collaboration.

The festival is set to conclude tomorrow with a “Three-Minute Thesis” competition, where students will attempt to simplify complex research findings for a general audience. The event, supported by title sponsor Shistem, Meghna Group, and media partner Prothom Alo, will wrap up with a keynote session and an awards ceremony recognizing the most impactful technological contributions.
