Crowd around ‘Commissioner’ in Mymensingh, farmers hope to sell for 5.5 lakhs

The thick chain around the neck, the shiny black color and the huge body – the eyes are stuck on the cow. The name ‘Commissioner’ is hung on a bamboo in front of the placard. The bull was picked up at the temporary sacrificial animal market at the circuit house ground adjacent to Zainul Abedin Park in Mymensingh city. It has become one of the attractions of the market before Eid.
On Tuesday at around 1:15 a.m., visitors can be seen crowding around the giant bull. Someone is taking pictures, someone is asking the price. A placard with Commissioner written on it hangs next to the cow.

A resident of Bhatikashar area of Mymensingh Nagar has reared the bull on his farm for about three years. Jewel. His farm is located in Uchakhila area of Ishwarganj upazila. There are another 15 to 20 cows. This time he brought three bulls to the circuit house field market. Among them, two bulls named ‘Motu’ and ‘Chamcham’ were sold yesterday for four and a half lakh taka. On the other hand, the price of the commissioner is Rs 6 lakh 80 thousand. But if you get five and a half lakh taka, you will sell it.
Jewell also explained the reason why the bull was named Commissioner. According to him, the cow is a bit lazy. Lies most of the time without eating. That’s why the name of the Commissioner has been jokingly named.

Farmer Jewel said the bull was kept on wheat husk and grass for three years. No drugs, chemicals or animal feed were used in fattening. Already the price of the cow has risen up to four and a half lakh taka.
On the occasion of Eid al-Adha, 152 permanent and temporary animal markets have been set up in Mymensingh district under the supervision of local administration and city corporation. This temporary market at the circuit house ground will continue till the morning of Eid.
According to the sources of the office of the district livestock officer, there are 2 lakh 4 thousand 148 animals that can be sacrificed in 13 upazilas of the district. Against this, the demand of the district is 1 lakh 81 thousand 266. Accordingly, there is a surplus of 44 thousand 882 animals compared to the demand. Cows are the largest number of prepared animals. 1 lakh 15 thousand 947 cows are ready for sacrifice in the district. Apart from this, there are 1 lakh 3 thousand 966 goats, 5 thousand 344 sheep and 886 buffaloes.
In view of Eid, the animal markets of the district have accumulated sales. But sometimes the buyers and sellers suffer due to rain.
District Livestock Officer Mohammad Wahedul Alam said that the biggest challenge around Eid is animal health care and market management. For this, field officials are working tirelessly. 56 Veterinary Medical Teams have been formed in the entire district.
The police administration is also working on the safety of vehicles carrying sacrificial animals and the law and order situation of the market. Apart from plainclothes police, uniformed police have also increased vigilance to prevent the spread of fake money and criminal gangs.
