Court verdict reinstated three UP chairmen of Netrakona, two won on boat symbol

The court has ordered the reinstatement of three Union Parishad (UP) chairmen of Purbadhala Upazila in Netrakona. The court passed this order last Thursday in view of a separate writ petition filed in the High Court Division.

When the copy of the judgment is sent to the Ministry of Local Government, the reinstatement of those chairmen is completed as per the instructions of the Ministry. At around 10 am this Saturday, Netrakona District Administration Local Government Department Deputy Secretary Ariful Islam Sardar confirmed this information over the phone.

The re-instated UP chairmen are Rejuanur Rahman of Dhalamulgaon union of the upazila, Kamal Krishna Sarkar of Khalishaud union and Abdul Qudduch Bepari of Narandia union. Among them, Rejuanur Rahman was elected on the autorickshaw symbol and Kamal Sarkar and Abdul Qudduch on the boat symbol in the last UP elections.

According to the sources of the local government branch of the concerned union council and district administration, after the political change on August 5, 2024, at least 42 of the 86 UP chairmen of the district were withdrawn on various charges including lawsuits. Later administrators and panel chairmen were appointed in them.

Almost all of the withdrawn chairmen are said to be involved in Awami League politics. Among them, three chairmen of Dhalamulgaon, Khalishaur and Narandia UP in Purbadhala ordered the reinstatement of the court in view of separate writ petitions filed in the High Court Division. Later, when the copy of the verdict was sent to the Ministry of Local Government, the process of their reinstatement was completed as per the instructions of the Ministry.

In this regard, Ariful Islam Sardar said, based on the judgment of the High Court, the three chairmen concerned have been reinstated. At the same time, the order regarding the appointment of the administrator issued earlier has been cancelled. A copy of the reinstatement order has been sent to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and concerned officials of the district administration.

Assistant Commissioner (Land) Tasnim Jahan, who is in charge of Purbadhala Upazila Executive Officer, said that the reinstatement process has been completed according to the court’s instructions and the ministry’s decision.

According to the reinstated chairmen, they have received justice from the court. They will go to the Union Parishad from tomorrow Sunday.

Local residents expressed their satisfaction with this news. Aminul Islam, a resident of Banderbari area of ​​Khalishaur Union, said that this will bring back speed to the normal activities of the council. Because people do not get round the clock service through administrators without elected representatives.
