Man Arrested in Mymensingh for Alleged Rape of Disabled Child

Police in Haluaghat, Mymensingh, have arrested a 50-year-old man on suspicion of raping an 11-year-old speech-impaired child. The suspect, identified as Shakul Sangma, a resident of Haluaghat, was apprehended around 8 p.m. on Sunday, hours after the alleged incident.
The alleged assault occurred at approximately 3 p.m. on Sunday. The child’s mother promptly filed a case against Sangma later that night, according to authorities.
Police and local residents reported that the child was playing near her home when Sangma allegedly lured her into a nearby forest. There, he reportedly threatened the child with death before the sexual assault took place. Local chowkidar Boktar Mia and other passersby witnessed the incident, prompting Sangma to flee the scene.
After the child was rescued and brought home, she communicated the ordeal to her parents through gestures. Local residents then informed the police, who responded to the scene and launched an operation that led to Sangma’s arrest.
Abdullah Al Mamun, Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) in Mymensingh, confirmed the arrest for the alleged rape of the speech-impaired child. Sangma is scheduled to be presented in court on Monday.
