Court Postpones Indictment Hearing for Sheikh Hasina and 33 Others in Truck Driver Murder Case

A Dhaka court on Thursday rescheduled the indictment hearing for 34 individuals, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in connection with the murder of truck driver Md. Hossain during the July mass uprising. Judge Rabiul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-4 set the new date for September 1.
State lawyer Omar Faruk Faruki confirmed the development, noting that the hearing was postponed because several of the accused were not present in court. While six defendants currently in custody were produced before the court, three others who are out on bail in this case could not be brought to the hearing as they are currently detained in connection with separate criminal proceedings.
The case stems from the killing of truck driver Md. Hossain, who was shot to death in the Chand Udyan area of Mohammadpur on July 19, 2024, during the student-led anti-discrimination movement. The same incident left two others, Sajjad and Shahin, injured.
Following the incident, the victim’s mother, Reena Begum, filed a murder case at the Mohammadpur Police Station on August 31, 2024. Investigators submitted a formal charge sheet against the 34 accused on November 23, 2025.
The list of those indicted includes prominent figures from the former administration and the now-banned Awami League. Among the accused are former General Secretary Obaidul Quader, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud, former minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak, former state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, and former lawmaker Sadek Khan. Additionally, the president of the banned student organization Bangladesh Chhatra League, Saddam Hossain, and its general secretary, Sheikh Wali Asif Inan, are also named in the charges.
