Comilla murder of customs officer: Confession statement of one more accused

Another accused, arrested in connection with the murder of customs officer Bullet Bairagi (35) in Comilla, has given a confessional statement in court. The accused named Ismail Hossain alias Johnny (28) gave this statement in the court of Comilla Senior Judicial Magistrate Sixth Court Judge Abida Sultana Molly at around four o’clock today Thursday afternoon.
Earlier, four accused had given a confessional statement in the court in connection with the murder. They are currently in Comilla Central Jail.

After three days of remand interrogation, Ismail was brought to court at around 3:30 pm today. Earlier on Monday night, Judge Abida Sultana Molly granted his remand after the hearing.
Ismail’s house is in Dharmapur area of Comilla suburb. After giving a confessional statement in the court today, the court ordered him to be sent to Comilla Central Jail. He was taken to Comilla Central Jail around 5 pm. Investigating officer of the case and Deputy Inspector (SI) of Kotbari Police Outpost of Comilla Sadar South Model Police Station Titu Kumar Nath confirmed the matter.

On April 27, the four accused gave a confessional statement in court. They are Md. Dharmapur area. Sohag (34), Md. Sujan (32), Emran Hossain alias Hriday (34) of Amratali area and Rahat Hossain alias Jewel (27) of Araiora area. RAB raided various areas including Comilla Nagar last Sunday night and arrested them.
Titu Kumar Nath, the investigating officer of the case, told Prothom Alo that several important facts were found during the interrogation of Ismail. They are scrutinizing them.
According to the police, among the many ways to enter Comilla city from the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, Jagurjhuli Bishwaroad area of Comilla Adarsh Sadar Upazila is the quietest. There is less traffic through this area at night. For this reason, the robbers were already sitting in the CNG-powered auto-rickshaw in the guise of the driver and passenger. They tried to snatch the goods by threatening the bullet Bairagi in an auto-rickshaw. At that time, when he stopped, he got into a fight with the robbers. At one point, Bullet Bairagi was thrown on the highway while on the move.
Sub-Inspector Titu Kumar Nath prepared the surathal report of Bullet Bairagi. He told Prothom Alo that the bullet Bairagi was hit in the back of the head after being thrown from the moving auto-rickshaw. The back of his head along with his neck was bruised. He has injuries in various parts of his body including his elbow. Apart from this, a bone in his right hand was also broken due to being thrown from the moving vehicle. He further said that after being thrown from the autorickshaw, Bairagi rolled the bullet and went to the side of the highway. Had he been hit by a car while lying on the highway, the mystery of this murder might not have been solved. At the time it seemed like an accident.
Incidentally, Bullet Bairagi was returning home from Chittagong to Comilla on the night of April 24. He also spoke to the family members several times after reaching the nearby place. But he never returned home. The next morning on April 25, the police recovered his bloody body from the side of the highway adjacent to the Kotbari Irish Hill Hotel.
