Three members of a Bangladeshi family were found murdered in their home in the Casalotti area of western Rome late Friday, according to reports. The victims—39-year-old Kamal Uddin, his 38-year-old wife Arju Akter, and their five-year-old daughter Arisha—suffered fatal stab wounds during the attack. A second child, 20-year-old Ayan, survived the assault and remains in critical condition at a local hospital.

Relatives and local officials in Bangladesh have confirmed the identities of the victims, who hailed from the Char-Kakrara union of Noakhali’s Companiganj upazila. The news has plunged the family’s ancestral village into mourning, with local authorities deploying police to the victims’ home to assist the grieving family. Kamal Uddin’s elderly parents, Sirajul Islam and Jahanara Begum, have been described by relatives as being in a state of deep distress following the confirmation of the deaths.

Preliminary information obtained from family members in Italy indicates that the assailants followed Kamal Uddin into his residence as he returned from work around 9:00 p.m. local time. The attackers reportedly used sharp weapons to carry out the assault before fleeing the scene. Neighbors alerted local law enforcement after hearing cries for help, but investigators found the three family members dead upon their arrival.

As of Saturday, Italian authorities have not identified a motive for the attack or publicly named any suspects. Cousin Yunus Sumon stated that the family is in communication with relatives on the ground in Italy but remains without definitive answers regarding the identity or intent of the perpetrators.

Kamal Uddin had been living in Italy since 2009. After returning to Bangladesh briefly last year, he had brought his family to join him in Rome earlier in 2024. Local administrative officials in Companiganj confirmed they have been notified of the incident and are working to gather further details through official channels. The investigation by Italian police is ongoing.
