Clash between Chhatra Dal and Hall Sangsad leaders over banner pulling at Dhaka University’s Muhsin Hall

Arguments and scuffles took place between the Chhatra Dal and Hall Sangsad leaders over pulling the banner at the main gate of Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall of Dhaka University. The incident took place around 10 pm on Tuesday when the leaders of the parliaments went to pull down the banner. There was tension for more than an hour.
It has been reported that Muhsin Hall, Parliament’s Literary and Cultural Secretary Julhas Islam, was beaten up on April 23 in Shahbagh area. Parliament hung a banner at the main gate of the hall last Monday in protest of this incident. In this, Chhatra Dal’s joint convener Sajjad Hossain Robin mentioned the attacker and attached his picture. When the Chhatra Dal leaders removed it, the leaders of the Sangsad went to pull the banner again on Tuesday. Then there was an argument and a fight between the two sides.

An emergency press conference was organized by the Parliament after the incident. Sadiq Shikder, VP of Muhsin Hall Sangsad, complained, “When we pulled up a banner yesterday Monday demanding justice for Sajjad in connection with the attack on Julhas, they (students) tore it and burnt it.” They stopped us when we pulled up the banner again on Tuesday. At this time they beat and injured our younger brother Salman who was with us.
Sadiq also said, “The cultural editor will be killed and his ears will be broken.” Again, if we ask for justice as part of its democratic process, they will attack and bleed our students. This is their character. They want to do their 90s gun politics. But we want to continue the democratic practice by showing tolerance again and again.

Complaining against the hall authorities, Sadiq said, we consider Sirajul Islam, the principal of Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall, as the highest guardian. However, even after 12-13 days of the incident, Julhas did not get time to call and inquire.

In the press conference, he said, today (Tuesday) within a few moments of pulling down the banner, 20 to 30 Chhatra Dal leaders and activists came with a procession and tore the banner at the gate of the hall and started walking forward. Then out of moral responsibility some members of the parliament including me went to take that banner back from their hands…. They pulled. At one point he took me behind a tree….several blows on my right side ear and head. Hurt my hand very badly. It causes bleeding.
Sirajul Islam, principal of Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall, was called several times on the mobile phone to inquire about this incident. But he did not answer the call.
Meanwhile, Chhatra Dal’s joint convener Sajjad Hossain told Prothom Alo that the accused in the Shahbagh incident was accused, “The people of the parliament have repeatedly referred to me as a terrorist and tried to pull down the banner.” I am not that at all. Today’s tension has arisen because of their behavior towards me. I was in no way involved in the attack that day.
