Child drowns in pond while parents busy distributing sacrificial meat

A young child drowned in a pond in Savarpara village, located in the Abhaynagar sub-district of Jashore, on Thursday afternoon, casting a shadow of tragedy over local Eid-al-Adha celebrations.
The victim, identified as Jonaid Molla, was the son of Sajjad Hossain Molla. According to the father, the family had been occupied with domestic preparations following the holiday sacrifices since midday. Jonaid was playing near his parents until approximately 1:00 p.m., when he suddenly vanished from their sight.

After an hour of frantic searching, a neighbor discovered the boy’s body floating in a pond adjacent to the family’s courtyard at roughly 2:00 p.m. The child was subsequently recovered from the water, but he could not be revived.
Sana Abdul Mannan, chairman of the local Chalishia Union Parishad, visited the grieving family following the incident. He described the event as deeply distressing, noting that the sudden loss transformed the celebratory atmosphere of the holiday into one of profound mourning for the entire community.

Jahidul Islam, inspector of investigation at Abhaynagar Police Station, confirmed that officers were dispatched to the scene upon receiving reports of the drowning. Local authorities have stated that necessary legal procedures regarding the death are currently underway.
