Case filed against Titas UP chairman and 21 others over vandalism of BNP office

A criminal case has been filed against 22 individuals, including Kolakandi Union Parishad Chairman Ibrahim Sarkar, following allegations of vandalism and theft at a local Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) office in the Titas upazila of Cumilla. The case was initiated late on July 7 by Jahangir Alam Munshi, joint general secretary of the Bolrampur Union BNP, at the Titas Police Station.
The complaint alleges that on the night of July 5, a BNP office located in Naya Bazar, South Bolrampur, was targeted by attackers who dismantled the premises and looted several pieces of furniture. In addition to the 22 named suspects, the lawsuit includes approximately 25 unidentified individuals.

The list of accused individuals features notable political figures, including two leaders previously expelled from the BNP, as well as the former convener of the Titas Upazila Awami League, Tofazzal Hossain Bhuiyan. The primary suspect is Tofael Ahmed Tapon Bhuiyan, a former member of the Upazila BNP who is currently campaigning for the chairmanship of the Bolrampur Union in the upcoming elections. Other prominent figures named in the complaint include Ibrahim Sarkar and former Kolakandi Union Jubo League president Iqbal Hossain.
Officer-in-Charge of Titas Police Station, Momirul Haque, confirmed that an investigation into the incident is currently underway. He described the matter as a politically motivated case and noted that no arrests have been made thus far. Authorities have assured that the investigation will be conducted impartially, emphasizing that any individual found to be innocent during the course of the inquiry will not face harassment.
