BSF hands over body of Bangladeshi youth killed along Moulvibazar border

The body of a 20-year-old Bangladeshi man, identified as Mujib Ali, was returned to his family on Saturday evening following his death by gunfire from India’s Border Security Force (BSF) along the Moulvibazar border. The handover took place at the Chatlapur Customs Station and Immigration Checkpoint after a flag meeting between the BSF and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
Mujib, a resident of Dattagram village in the Sharifpur Union of Kulaura upazila, was the son of the late Ojib Ullah. Kulaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Zahurul Islam confirmed the return of the remains, which were formally received by the victim’s uncle, Fojir Ali.

The incident occurred on Friday evening when Mujib and a group of six to seven others reportedly crossed the border illegally near the Dattagram frontier, which is separated from the Indian state of Tripura by the Manu River. According to local officials, the group had gathered near the barbed-wire fence with the assistance of Indian smugglers when BSF personnel opened fire. While Mujib was killed at the scene, the rest of his companions managed to flee. Following the shooting, BSF personnel recovered the body and transported it to a nearby Indian hospital for a post-mortem examination.
During the Saturday evening flag meeting, which was attended by representatives from the Kulaura Police, the 46th Battalion of the BGB, the BSF, and Indian civil police, the Bangladeshi authorities formally protested the lethal use of force. Lieutenant Colonel Sarkar Asif Mahmud, captain of the 46th Battalion of the BGB, stated that the delegation lodged a strong objection with their Indian counterparts regarding the killing.
