Borguna Residents Protest Deaths of Mother and Daughters Demanding Investigation and CCTV Disclosure

Family members and local residents held a protest march in Barguna on Thursday, demanding a transparent investigation into the deaths of a district council guesthouse cleaner and her two young daughters. Protesters gathered to express their skepticism regarding the official police narrative that the deaths were a result of suicide, insisting instead that the victims were murdered.

The bodies of 34-year-old Iti Rani and her daughters, 11-year-old Aradhya Biswas and 3-year-old Anuradha Biswas, were discovered on Wednesday afternoon in two rooms on the third floor of the Barguna District Council guesthouse. Iti, the wife of Kalibari Road resident Dulal Chandra Biswas, had been employed at the facility as a temporary cleaning staff member.

Following post-mortem examinations at Barguna General Hospital on Thursday, the remains were released to the grieving family. Outraged by the official handling of the case, relatives carried the bodies through the town’s main thoroughfares in a procession that concluded at the victims’ residence in the Kalibari area.

Family members have categorically rejected the police’s preliminary classification of the case as an unnatural death. They maintain that the victims had no motive to take their own lives and are calling for the immediate release of CCTV footage from the guesthouse to establish the truth behind the tragedy.

The protest gained further momentum as the Barguna district branch of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad organized a human chain in the city center. During the demonstration, speakers alleged that the investigation was being steered in a different direction and accused authorities of intentionally delaying the autopsy process to obfuscate the circumstances of the deaths.

Community leaders and local activists, including Puja Udjapan Parishad district president Sushanta Kumar Bepari and vice president Manik Sikdar, called for a swift and impartial probe. They demanded that those responsible for the deaths be identified and brought to justice, emphasizing that the community would continue to press for accountability until a credible explanation is provided.
