Body of school employee recovered from river in Khagrachhari three days after disappearance

Police in Khagrachhari have recovered the body of Tapan Uday Chakma, 56, from the Chengi River in the Rajyamani Para area of the city. The body was found Friday morning, three days after Chakma went missing while reportedly trying to catch floating logs in the river, which was swollen by upstream waters.

Chakma was employed as a clerk at Perachhara High School in Khagrachhari. He was swept away by the strong current of the Chengi River in the Perachhara area on Tuesday.

Local residents discovered Chakma’s body on a sandbank in the Rajyamani Para area early Friday, according to Bimbishar Khisa, head teacher of Perachhara High School. They subsequently alerted the police, who arrived at the scene and retrieved the body.

The recovered body was handed over to the family without an autopsy. Necessary legal procedures are underway, Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Kay Kislu told the press.
