Bodies of Father and Son Recovered Two Days After Padma River Boat Capsizing

The bodies of a father and son, who went missing following a boat capsize in the Padma River two days ago, were recovered on Thursday afternoon. Fire service personnel retrieved the remains of Kawsar Ali and his son, Ziarul Islam, before returning them to their grieving family for burial in the Shyampur Balughat area of Rajshahi.
The tragedy occurred Tuesday afternoon near Barokuthi when a shallow-engine boat operated by Kawsar Ali sank while returning from a river island. The victims, along with Kawsar’s wife, Zahera Begum, and six other passengers, had been transporting wood and hay collected from the island. While the other passengers managed to swim to safety after being rescued by a passing vessel, the father and son remained unaccounted for.
The search concluded Thursday morning after Kawsar Ali’s body was spotted floating in the Padma near the Banglabazar area of Kushtia’s Daulatpur upazila. Later that afternoon, Ziarul Islam’s remains were discovered near Talaimari in Rajshahi, not far from their home.
Rajshahi Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Farhad Hossain confirmed the recovery, noting that the bodies were retrieved with the assistance of the river police. Local authorities at the Katakhali Police Station reported that an unnatural death case has been filed in connection with the incident. As the family expressed no objections, the bodies were released without post-mortem examinations.
