Bangladeshi worker killed in train accident in Italy

The dream was to keep the family happy. Shafiqul Islam (55) went to Italy to realize that dream. He worked as a laborer there. Shafiqul was killed in a train accident in the country last Sunday.
Shafiqul is a resident of Jajisar village in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria. He was killed in a train accident on his way to work in Italy around 12:30 PM Bangladesh time on Sunday.
Relatives said Shafiqul went to Italy about 27 years ago. He worked as a laborer in an organization there. He wanted to build a future for his wife and four children. On his way to work on Sunday, Shafiqul was killed on the spot by a train in Levate, Bergamo province, Italy. Later, the country’s police recovered his body and sent it to a hospital morgue in Italy. A Bangladeshi friend who was with Shafiqul in Italy informed the family about his death on Sunday afternoon.
Chairman of Kaimpur Union Parishad of Kasba Upazila Iktyar Alam confirmed the death and told Prothom Alo that Shafikul died in a train accident around 12:30 PM Bangladesh time on Sunday.
Shafiqul’s nephew Saiful Islam said, “Uncle worked hard in Italy and supported his family in the country. He was the only earner in our family. I appeal to the government and those concerned to arrange for Kaka’s body to be brought back to the country quickly.
