Bangladeshi national killed in BSF firing along Moulvibazar border

A 20-year-old Bangladeshi man was killed in a shooting involving the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the Kulaura border in Moulvibazar on Friday evening. The incident occurred inside Indian territory near the Dattagram border in the Sharifpur Union.
The victim, identified as Mujib Ali, was a resident of the local area and the son of the late Ojib Ullah. According to local ward member Joynul Islam, Ali was allegedly involved in cross-border smuggling activities and was accompanied by several associates at the time of the encounter.

Lieutenant Colonel Sarkar Asif Mahmud, commander of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) 46th Battalion, confirmed the fatality. He stated that BSF personnel have transported the body to a local hospital morgue for an autopsy and have committed to repatriating the remains once the necessary legal procedures are completed.
Initial reports from BGB and local sources indicate that the incident unfolded around 6:30 p.m. near the Manu River, which serves as a natural boundary in the Dattagram sector. Ali and a group of approximately six individuals reportedly crossed the river and entered Indian territory between main border pillars 1852 and 1853.

The group was intercepted by a BSF patrol team, which opened fire after a confrontation, resulting in Ali’s death at the scene. His companions fled the area immediately following the shooting. BGB officials stated that they established contact with their BSF counterparts shortly after hearing the gunfire, at which point the details of the fatality were confirmed.
