July Shaheed Smriti Foundation in severe financial crisis, request to pay 1 month salary to MPs

Juli Shaheed Smriti Foundation reported severe financial crisis. Currently there is less than one lakh rupees as an open bank under the management of the foundation. The chief executive officer of the foundation urged to donate one month’s salary of all the members of the national parliament to the foundation to solve the crisis.

July Shaheed Smriti Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer Lt. Col. (retd.) Kamal Akbar made this call at a press briefing at the Foundation’s Shahbagh office in the capital on Thursday afternoon. He said that due to the financial crisis, the salary of the foundation’s officers and employees for the current month and the regular expenses of the office have become uncertain. At the same time, there is a huge shortfall in the amount allocated for the families of the injured and martyrs.

Kamal Akbar called upon the Speaker of the National Assembly and said that the Speaker should present this call to the National Assembly. Requested to pay one month’s salary to members of Parliament.

The chief executive of the foundation said that due to lack of money, more than 8,000 July injured could not be helped. Presenting the foundation’s annual report for the financial year 2024-25, he said that a total of Tk 337 crore was required to provide assistance to the July martyrs and the July injured. At the beginning of the foundation’s journey, only Tk 120 crore was received by the then interim government and from various sectors. With that money, 832 families of martyrs and 6 thousand 127 people who were injured by category have been given grants by the foundation.

Chief Executive Officer feels that July Martyrs Memorial Foundation’s image has been tarnished due to not being able to provide assistance to most of the July injured people. He said that most of the people who did not receive support are making misconceptions and negative comments about the July Wounded Foundation.

July Shaheed Smriti Foundation was formed to provide financial and humanitarian assistance to the families of martyrs and injured in the 2024 mass uprising, medical assistance, employment, education, training and rehabilitation and various welfare activities related to memory preservation.

The chief executive said that the foundation is continuing to communicate with various levels of the government to overcome the crisis. He said, Juli Foundation is currently awaiting a positive response from the concerned ministries of the government and is expecting private and institutional donations to overcome this crisis.
