Bangladesh resumes operations as holidaymakers return following Eid al-Adha break

Government offices, banks, and financial institutions across Bangladesh resumed operations on Monday following a week-long public holiday for Eid-ul-Adha. The conclusion of the official break, which spanned from May 25 to May 31, signals a return to routine for the public and private sectors, marking the end of the country’s significant festival period.

Despite the official resumption of work, the transition is expected to be gradual. Many employees have extended their leave with personal time off, contributing to a lingering holiday atmosphere throughout the week. Industry observers anticipate that offices will not reach full operational capacity until Sunday of the following week.

The return to normalcy has triggered a surge in travel as citizens move from their village homes back to Dhaka and other major urban centers. Transportation hubs, including bus and launch terminals as well as railway stations, are experiencing increased pressure as commuters complete their journeys. Footage from the Kamalapur Railway Station on Sunday reflected this influx, as crowds of travelers arrived in the capital to report back to their respective workplaces.
