Bangladesh Police has categorically dismissed as baseless reports circulating on social media claiming that the bodies of seven Awami League and Chhatra League activists were discovered floating in the Turag River.
In an official statement issued Saturday evening, police headquarters characterized the viral reports as a deliberate attempt to incite public confusion and undermine the morale of law enforcement agencies. Authorities confirmed that no such incident has occurred and urged the public to disregard the misinformation.

The rumors surfaced amidst heightened tensions following recent efforts by the now-banned Awami League and its student wing to organize protests across the country. These demonstrations, which took place in the lead-up to the party’s 77th anniversary, were met with resistance from law enforcement, leading to several arrests in the capital and other regions.
Following these confrontations, various social media accounts sympathetic to the party claimed that seven individuals had been killed while in custody and their remains dumped in the river.
