Bangladesh has reduced the price of jet fuel for the second consecutive month, continuing a downward trend in domestic energy costs as global oil markets stabilize. According to an official notification issued Tuesday by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC), the price of jet fuel for domestic flights has been cut by 19.22 taka per liter.

Effective at midnight, the new rate for domestic flight fuel is set at 130.99 taka per liter, down from the previous 150.21 taka. For international carriers, the price has been adjusted to 0.8556 dollars per liter, marking a decrease from the earlier rate of 0.9808 dollars.

This latest reduction follows a pattern of recent downward adjustments, including a 15.67 taka decrease last month and a cumulative reduction of 61.12 taka over two separate instances in the preceding month. These corrections come as a relief following the significant volatility triggered by the escalation of conflict in the Middle East, which saw fuel prices surge throughout March and April of last year.

The instability in the global oil market was initially sparked in late February when attacks on Iranian interests led to a broader regional conflict, directly impacting energy infrastructure in oil-producing nations. Prices began to soften only after a ceasefire took hold, allowing for a gradual market recovery.

The authority to set fuel prices was transitioned to the BERC following an interim government decision to repeal provisions that previously allowed for the executive determination of electricity and gas prices. Since a formal notification issued on September 15, 2024, granted the commission jurisdiction over furnace oil and Jet A-1 fuel, the BERC has conducted public hearings and implemented a monthly price adjustment mechanism to ensure transparency and responsiveness to global market trends.
