Bangladesh government announces retake policy for students missing HSC exams due to adverse weather

Students who missed HSC and equivalent examinations due to adverse weather or unavoidable circumstances will be granted the opportunity to retake those specific papers, officials announced Wednesday. These students will join peers in the Chittagong Education Board to sit for the postponed exams, scheduled at the same time and under the same testing criteria set by the Ministry of Education.

Mahadi Amin, a spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, confirmed the government’s decision as students continued protests across Dhaka and other districts for a second consecutive day, demanding a complete overhaul of the exam schedule. Addressing the ongoing unrest, Amin emphasized that the government is prioritizing the academic continuity of students while ensuring the integrity of the national assessment process.

According to the official statement, the decision to continue examinations nationwide—excluding the Chittagong board—was made following exhaustive consultations with local administrators, police, educational board chairs, and meteorological experts. Authorities have been empowered to implement flexible measures, including the relocation of exam centers, local scheduling adjustments, or deadline extensions, should flooding or transit issues persist in specific regions.

In response to concerns regarding academic standards, the government confirmed that all students will be awarded full marks for two erroneous questions found on the Physics First Paper. Furthermore, officials responsible for the flawed exam paper have been placed under temporary suspension.

Outside of the Chittagong region, examinations proceeded in 2,583 centers across the country on Wednesday under improved weather conditions. The government maintains that the HSC exams represent a critical milestone for the nation’s future, noting that protecting the welfare and educational progress of students remains a primary objective of the administration.
