Authorities seize 6,000 methamphetamine pills from vehicle displaying Ministry of Home Affairs sticker in Coxs Bazar

Authorities in Cox’s Bazar arrested three individuals on Wednesday morning for allegedly attempting to smuggle 6,000 methamphetamine pills inside a private vehicle displaying a Ministry of Home Affairs sticker. The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) intercepted the car at approximately 7:30 a.m. near the Ramu Rubber Garden in Ramu upazila.
The suspects have been identified as 36-year-old Sabbir Hossain from Cumilla’s Chauddagram, 22-year-old Sima Islam from Narayanganj, and 18-year-old Urmi Akter from Dhaka’s Darussalam area. According to DNC officials, the arrests followed a tip-off that led to the search of a white Toyota sedan. During the inspection, agents discovered the narcotics concealed within three bags wrapped in tissue paper and adhesive tape.
In addition to the illicit cargo, officers seized the vehicle, four smartphones, and the car’s registration documentation, including its fitness certificate and tax tokens. Inspector Mohammad Mizanur Rahman filed a formal case against the trio under the Narcotics Control Act before handing them over to the Ramu police station for further legal proceedings.
Somen Mondal, deputy director of the DNC in Cox’s Bazar, described the use of official ministry insignia as a deeply concerning tactic for bypassing law enforcement. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine how the suspects obtained the government sticker and whether a broader trafficking network is involved in the operation.
