During the regime of Awami League deposed in the July mass coup, three and a half thousand crores of local government department was lost without doing any work in a district of the country – referring to this information, local government, rural development and cooperative minister and BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged the country’s engineers to be careful about these issues.

Mirza Fakhrul said to them that the role of engineers is the most significant and necessary in this regard, “people of this country are not as simple as before.” They understand everything, know everything. The people of this country will not forgive anyone. If we make a mistake today, we will not be forgiven. For that reason, I would request that since the people of the whole country have an expectation, trust and confidence in you, you will fulfill it.

This was said by the local government minister at a function at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) at Ramna in the capital on Saturday afternoon. He was the chief guest at the reception and closing ceremony on the occasion of IEB’s 78th anniversary (Engineers’ Day).

Mirza Fakhrul said to the assembled engineers in the organization of IEB’s founding anniversary, “I am working in the ministry, the work of this ministry is about engineers. On the one hand, there is local government engineering, along with WASA, there is public health engineering. That is, you plan and implement the minimum requirements of the people of Bangladesh and work for the benefit of the people. People have a lot of interest in you, a lot of desire, a lot of expectation. The plans and works that you will do, those works should be really useful for the people.

The local government minister said, ‘We are very sad when we see in the newspaper that during the previous fascist government, in a district, probably Pirojpur, 3500 crore rupees have been lost, no work has been done. It is from this local government ministry and department. Please look into these matters very carefully.’

Referring to the July mass uprising, BNP Secretary General said, “Our sons have created a new opportunity with their blood and lives.” May we never let that bloodline of theirs fade and never be damaged because of us.’

President of IEB and Chairman of Rajuk Mohammad Riazul Islam presided over the event. Association of Engineers Bangladesh convenor and former member of parliament Shahrin Islam Tuhin was the special guest.

Engineers who have become members of the current 13th National Parliament were felicitated at the event. They are Md. Ashraf Uddin, Moinul Islam Khan, Sanjida Islam, Mahbooba Hakim and Mardia Mumtaz. Engineer Mohammad Abdul Baki who received ‘Independence Award-2026’ in research and training was also felicitated in the event.
