A colorful day in the atmosphere of the festival

To welcome the Bengali New Year 1433, there were various day-long events in the Prothom Alo Boishakhi festival. This New Year event becomes a center of joy and cultural connection for a day amidst the hustle and bustle of city life.

Today, Tuesday, the program started with National Anthem and Boishakh songs at Chef’s Table Courtside located on Madani Avenue in the capital’s United City. The program started at 9 am and lasted till 5 pm.

After the National Anthem, child artistes of Gitanjali Academy of Fine Arts sang ‘Eso Hey Baishakh, Eso Eso’ at the festival held in the open courtyard of Chef’s Table. Then the guests and visitors in front of the stage also joined in with them. After the musical performance, Prothom Alo Managing Editor Anisul Haque presented a memento to Gitanjali Academy of Fine Arts.

Then the drawing competition started. Children and teenagers participated in two groups. On the morning of the first day of Baisakh, children and teenagers bring out various pictures in colors while sitting on the red carpet on the green grass of Chef’s Table premises. The guardians fanned the contestants from standing behind. Then there was a children’s handwriting competition.

Housewife Shaheen Haque came to the festival from Uttara with her daughter and granddaughter. He told Prothom Alo, “Such arrangements remind us of the roots of our culture. It is an opportunity to come here and see the atmosphere of traditional Bengali festival.

Organized by Prothom Alo and in collaboration with Chef’s Table Courtside, the festival had an exhibition of folk products like Shitalpati, Tepaputul, bangles, toys for the visitors throughout the day. Ranpa, Hawaiian Sweets, Banarnach, Bombay Candy were all over the fair grounds. There were also exciting childhood games like Latim, Marbles, Ludo, Shologhunti, Biscuit Race.

Housewife Ayesha Kabir brought her family from Pallavi area. He said, “I was watching the news of the festival here for several days. Nice to come. Very nice arrangement. There should be more such arrangements for the city dwellers.

Around the Prothom Alo Boishakhi festival, the chefs table is sitting around the various accessories of Abhaman Bengal. These include Blacksmithing, Tantipara, Bamboo Cottages, Sheetalpati and Tepaputul, Kumarpara, Nakshikantha, Mask and Sara Art, Caricature, Magic Show, Dollhouse, Origami Stalls. There are also Nagordola, Hawaiian Sweets, Colorful Dressing Room, Bangles Shop.

As the day progresses, the number of visitors to the festival increases. This New Year event becomes more colorful with the presence of Prothom Alo workers, their family members and visitors. Colorful sarees and Punjabis spread the festive atmosphere at the venue; The first day of the new year becomes colorful.

Handwriting competition and ‘dress up as you wish’ were held in the festival with the participation of children, teenagers and youth. Besides, creative corners like caricature and origami become the center of special attraction for children.

Principal Mokhtar Hossain and Vice Principal Mimia Khatun came to the Baisakhi festival with a group of 11 students of Cambridge Grammar School, Badda. They told Prothom Alo that they brought them here to give students an idea about the Bengali New Year festival and arrangements. Students are watching and learning all kinds of things.

Throughout the festival there were various performances including music, storytelling, puppetry, magic. Artist Rajeev Basak from Chittagong shows magic to the visitors. The visitors of all ages see different things on the artist’s magic wand like mesmerized.

Narrator Mahmuda Akhtar will be the narrator of the festival. Artist Pulak Adhikari performed the music. And the caricature workshop was conducted by artists Arafat Karim and SM Rakibur Rahman.

Apart from this, artists Abdul Mannan, Fabeha Zeba, Anisuzzaman Sohel and Ashok Karmkar conducted the judging in various competitions. These artists and Chairman of United Group Moinuddin Hasan Rashid, Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman, Managing Editor Anisul Haque, Associate Editor Sumna Sharmin gave the prizes to the children on stage.

Belisa Nasarat, a class five student of Shaheed Anwar Girls School and College, Devasmita Kundu, a class five student of Adamji Cantonment Public School and College, and Nusaybah Hyder Raha, a class five student of Vikarunnisa Noon School, stood first in the handwriting competition in the ‘A’ category.

Roksana Ahmed, a class 10 student of Uttara High School and College, Subaha Tabachchum, a class 9 student of Vikarunnisa Noon School and College, and Samiha Alam, a class 8 student of III Adamji Cantonment Public School and College, stood first in the ‘B’ category in the same competition.

Nusaiba Salam, a student of Class IV of LPSS, Arjun Saha of Class III of Hardco International School, and Nusayer Salam, a nursery student of Life Preparatory School, stood first in the drawing competition in the ‘A’ category.

Students of Hardco International School won all the prizes in the ‘B’ category in the same competition. Among them, the first is Priyanti Saha, a student of class VII, the second is a student of class VIII, Shazma Zaha Khan, and the third is a student of class VII, Apraditi Patra.

Jabir Ahmed, first class student of Methodist English Medium School, Junayed Ahmed, second class student of Colonel Asibur Rahman School and Falak, first class student of Third Methodist English Medium School, won first place in the festival dress-up competition.

A team of doctors from United Medical College Hospital provided first aid throughout the event. Apart from this, ACI Motors’ Yamaha Motorcycles and Eco Flow-Portable Power Systems had exhibition stalls at the fair.
