6 demands of officials and employees of Dhaka University including promotion and increase in service age

Dhaka University (DU) officers and employees have made six demands including the promotion of 187 people from assistant registrar and equivalent positions to deputy registrar or equivalent positions and increase in service age.
They gathered in front of the university registrar’s office on Wednesday morning and made these demands in writing. They have also warned of strict agitation if their demands are not met.
This program was held under the banner of the University’s staff unity council consisting of four organizations.
Among the demands of the officers and employees, the promotion of 187 people accepted by the syndicate from assistant registrar or equivalent post to deputy registrar or equivalent post should be completed by May 15. At the same time, the promotion application of 2025 of Officers Association, Class III Employees Association, Technical Employees Association and Class IV Employees Union should be called immediately. Apart from this, they demanded that the age limit of all levels of employees should be increased to 62 years.
Their other demands are to increase the benefits under the existing promotion policy while keeping the benefits under international labor laws intact. 2020 September 9 policies to discuss with the leaders of the respective organizations to add and subtract. It has been informed that the university officials and employees will not accept any ‘black policy’ in the absence of the leaders of the organization. Apart from this, for the needs of administrative work, the canteen of the administrative building should be opened as soon as possible and the officials and employees should be given the opportunity to receive higher education.
The agitating officers and employees said that if the registrar does not take necessary measures to implement the demand, they will hold a protest rally from 11 am to 12 noon every day till May 3. If the authorities do not sincerely take steps to implement the demand within the stipulated time, they will be responsible for the situation that arises.
They said to give memorandums to the Vice-Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Vice-Chancellor (Education), Treasurer and Proctor stating the demands.
When asked about this, Dhaka University acting registrar Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed told Prothom Alo, ‘Today they have presented their demands and set a deadline. They said that measures should be taken to accept the demands within this period.
The acting registrar also said that as per the prevailing norms of the university, one-third (one-third) officers are promoted from assistant registrar to deputy registrar. But the officers’ association has demanded that only 187 of those who have applied should be promoted. They say that they have been discriminated against in the past.
Munsi Shams Uddin Ahmed said that the matter of this demand of the officials will be informed to the Vice-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor of the University and said that the University Administration will take a decision on this matter later.
