5 members of RAB were attacked while collecting information on drug dealers in Natore

Five members of the intelligence wing of RAB were attacked by local youth while collecting information on drug dealers in Lalpur Upazila of Natore. The incident took place at Nabinagar village of the old Ishwardi union of the upazila around 10 pm yesterday.
A youth named Sohag Mahmud (25) has been arrested in connection with the incident. Arrested Sohag Mahmud is the son of Fazlur Rahman of Nabinagar village.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lalpur Police Station Shafiqul Islam said that the injured RAB members were treated at Lalpur Upazila Health Complex last night. He said that four of them have returned to the barracks, but one named Shamim Hossain is undergoing treatment till Wednesday morning.
According to the police sources of Lalpur police station, six members of the intelligence wing of Natore camp of RAB-5 went to Nabinagar village in plain clothes last night. At that time, some young people were hanging out at a place on the river bank. Allegations have been made that the youths stopped the motorcycle of the RAB members on sensing the presence of law and order forces. At one stage of the argument, they took the keys of RAB members to several motorcycles. Those youths attacked RAB members indiscriminately.
On receiving the information, members of Lalpur police station came to the spot and rescued five RAB members in injured condition and took them to Lalpur Upazila Health Complex. Confirming the matter, the medical officer of the hospital, Shammi Akhter, said that the injured RAB members have been treated for physical injuries.
Afzal Hossain, a member of the old Ishwardi Union Parishad (UP), said that he has come to know about the incident of RAB members being beaten up. Later Lalpur police station went to the spot and rescued them.
Stating that a case has been registered in this incident, the OC of Lalpur police station said that Sohag was arrested from the spot in that case. Operations are on to nab other people involved.
