Human chain of lawyers in Narayanganj demanding quick implementation of seven murder case verdict

The members of Narayanganj District Lawyers Association formed a human chain to demand the speedy implementation of the judgment of the seven murder cases discussed in Narayanganj. At the same time, the state compensation was also given to the families affected by these murders. This program was celebrated in front of the Narayanganj District Lawyers Association building at around 10:30 am on Monday.
District Bar Association president Sarkar Humayun Kabir presided over and general secretary Anwar Hossain Pradhan conducted the human chain, and the chief guest was Sakhawat Hossain Khan, the lawyer of the plaintiff in the case and the administrator of Narayanganj City Corporation. Apart from this, Narayanganj-4 (Fatullah) Constituency Member of Parliament Abdullah Al Amin, District and Sessions Judge Court Public Counsel (PP) Abul Kalam Azad Zakir, Women and Child Torture Tribunal PP Khorshed Alam Molla, former General Secretary of the District Bar Association Zakir Hossain and others spoke in solidarity.
Sakhawat Hossain Khan said, after the seven murders, there was a struggle to demand the arrest and trial of the accused involved. The judgment of the murder trial should be executed immediately. If exemplary punishment is implemented, those who commit disappearances, no matter how powerful or influential the accused, will be brought under the law. In future such crimes will reduce and rule of law will be established.
Sakhawat Hossain also said that the families of those who were killed are living an inhumane life. Since these killings were carried out by trained forces, he demanded compensation from the state to the affected families.
Member of Parliament Abdullah Al Amin said, “Godfather Osman’s family is related to various incidents in Narayanganj in the past. No action has been taken in sensational incidents like these seven murders and skinning. On the contrary, there was some kind of protection to the godfathers from the administration and the government. We want action against whoever is guilty. The seven murder case is pending in the Appellate Division, the matter will be disposed of immediately and the judgment will be implemented.
It is to be noted that on April 27, 2014, seven people, including the then panel mayor of City Corporation Nazrul Islam, senior lawyer Chandan Sarkar, were abducted from Lamapara area of Fatulla on Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road. Three days after the abduction, six bodies were recovered from the Shitalakshya river on April 30, and the next day another body.
Nazrul Islam’s wife Selina Islam Beauty and Chandan Sarkar’s son-in-law Vijay Kumar Pal filed two separate cases at Fatulla Model Police Station. On January 16, 2016, Narayanganj District and Sessions Judge Court three former officers of RAB-Lt. Colonel (retd) Tarek Saeed, Major (retd) Arif Hossain, Lieut. Commander (retd) MM Rana—including former councilor Noor Hossain—sentenced 26 people to death and sentenced 9 to various terms of imprisonment.
Later, on the appeal of the accused, on August 22, 2017, the High Court upheld the death sentence of 15 people, including 3 former officers of RAB, Noor Hossain. At the same time, the life sentence of 11 people and the sentences of 9 people of various terms were also upheld. The case is currently pending hearing on leave to appeal.
