Measles Outbreak Claims Nine More Lives Across Bangladesh In Twenty-Four Hours
Bangladesh logs nine more fatalities and over twelve hundred fresh suspected cases amid a nationwide health concern over measles symptoms
Nine more individuals have died with measles-like symptoms across Bangladesh over the past 24 hours, alongside the identification of 1,228 new suspected cases, according to the latest official health bulletin. The data, released on Sunday by the Integrated Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services, covers the 24-hour period from Saturday morning to Sunday morning, highlighting an ongoing public health challenge nationwide.
During the same timeframe, 1,155 patients presenting with measles symptoms were admitted to hospitals across the country, while 113 cases were officially confirmed. The cumulative statistics since March 15 indicate a total of 995 deaths associated with measles symptoms, accompanied by 101 confirmed measles fatalities, bringing the combined death toll to 1,096. Over this period, cumulative suspected cases have reached 188,041, with 21,212 cases formally confirmed by health authorities.
Geographically, the Dhaka division recorded the highest concentration of new suspected cases with 378 individuals, followed by Chattogram with 313, Sylhet with 153, Barishal with 127, Mymensingh with 98, Khulna with 93, Rangpur with 36, and Rajshahi with 30 cases. Fatalities were similarly led by the Dhaka division, which reported four deaths over the past 24 hours, while Chattogram and Sylhet recorded two deaths each, and Mymensingh documented one.
Since the outbreak trajectory began on March 15, a total of 166,310 suspected patients have sought hospital care. Of those admitted, 159,519 individuals have successfully recovered and been discharged from medical facilities, reflecting ongoing efforts by healthcare workers to manage and treat affected patients across the nation.
