Court Denies Bail to Two Sub-Registry Office Employees Arrested with Bribe Money in Chattogram
The court rejected the bail application of two employees of Pahartali sub-registrar's office who were arrested with bribe money before the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in Chittagong. They are Head Clerk Farooq Islam and Umeda Rupan Das. Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge Hasanul Islam gave this order after the court hearing on Monday.
registrar Abdus Sobhan was asked for a five-day remand in the same court. The court fixed the date of remand hearing tomorrow, Tuesday.
ACC raided Pahartali sub-registrar's office after receiving a complaint filed by a lawyer on September 22. The lawyer went to the Pahartali sub-registry office in the city court building to register two partnership deeds of his client. Registration is withheld even though there is no error in both the documents. Later, the lawyer complained to ACC's hotline 106 number. At that time, sub-registrar Abdus Sobhan, head clerk Farooq Islam and Umeda Rupan Das were arrested along with two lakh rupees of bribe. ACC filed a case against the three arrested in this incident. Later on last Thursday, when Farooq Islam and Rupan Dash were produced in the court, they said in their confession statement that they took the bribe on the instructions of the sub-registrar.
ACC Public Counsel (PP) Rezaul Karim told Prothom Alo that the two employees of the sub-registrar's office, who were arrested along with bribe money, were applied for bail. Bail was opposed by the ACC. After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail application. Apart from this, the bail and remand of Abdus Sobhan, who was arrested with bribe money, was requested. The court fixed tomorrow for hearing.
