PDB Executive Engineer Caught Demanding BDT 2 Crore Bribe in Laxmipur

An 8-minute and 50-second video featuring Nurul Amin, the executive engineer of the Power Development Board (PDB) in Lakshmipur, has surfaced on social media, sparking widespread controversy over alleged high-level corruption and bribery demands. In the leaked footage, which went viral on Facebook, the official is heard allegedly negotiating a bribe of two crore BDT in exchange for signing off on project bills, boasting about his influence and claiming that superior authorities would not take action against him.
Throughout the recorded conversation, the executive engineer can be heard discussing financial misappropriation related to project materials, noting that funds amounting to several crore BDT were allegedly embezzled by a contractor. He demands a cut of two crore BDT out of five crore BDT to approve all pending documentation. The footage also captures references to financial exchanges, with figures such as 35,000 and 1,35,000 BDT being discussed in the presence of another unidentified individual. The exact context of the video and the identity of the person interacting with the engineer remain unverified.
Local contractors in Lakshmipur, speaking on condition of anonymity, alleged that the executive engineer routinely demands illicit kickbacks to facilitate bill approvals and fund disbursements. According to the contractors, those who refuse to comply face deliberate administrative hurdles, stalled payments, and prolonged delays, compelling many to acquiesce rather than risk their livelihoods by confronting him.
Attempts to reach Executive Engineer Nurul Amin for comment proved unsuccessful as multiple phone calls went unanswered, and he did not respond to messages sent via WhatsApp. A visit to his office yielded no results, with an assistant engineer confirming that he had been absent from work since morning.
Addressing the incident, Sheikh Firoz Kabir, chief engineer of the PDB Comilla distribution zone, acknowledged that the footage has come to official attention. He stated that the matter has been escalated to higher authorities and confirmed that a formal investigation committee will be formed to take necessary punitive measures.
