Veteran Actor Bharat Kapoor Dies

MUMBAI – Veteran Bollywood actor Bharat Kapoor, a familiar face on both the silver screen and theatrical stages for decades, died Monday at age 80. Kapoor succumbed to a heart attack at his Mumbai residence around 3 p.m. local time, his family confirmed.

The actor’s funeral was held on Monday evening. Longtime colleague and friend Avtar Gill expressed profound grief over Kapoor’s passing, noting that the actor had been unwell for several days. Their friendship spanned nearly five decades.

Kapoor, who began his Bollywood journey in the 1970s, carved a niche for himself with his distinctive supporting roles, often playing the antagonist’s accomplice. He captivated audiences with his sharp dialogues and measured performances, earning widespread acclaim not just in cinema but also in theater.

His extensive filmography includes commercially successful and popular movies such as ‘Noorie,’ ‘Ram Balram,’ ‘Love Story,’ ‘Bazaar,’ ‘Ghulami,’ and ‘Sajan Chale Sasural.’ Kapoor showcased remarkable versatility, embodying characters ranging from lawyers and police officers to formidable villains with equal ease.

Beyond the big screen, Kapoor maintained a vibrant presence on television, becoming a household name through serials like ‘Campus,’ ‘Saans,’ ‘Amanat,’ ‘Tara,’ and ‘Chunauti.’ He possessed an extraordinary ability to command attention purely through his acting prowess, even without being in the main spotlight.

Bharat Kapoor is survived by his wife, Lopa, and two sons, Rahul and Sagar. He was predeceased by his daughter, Kavita. While fans mourn the loss of the cinematic veteran, the enduring legacy of his timeless work ensures that the familiar face of Bharat Kapoor will live on.
