Legendary actor Ilias Kanchan returns to Bangladesh amid ongoing brain tumor treatment in London

Renowned Dhallywood icon Ilias Kanchan has returned to Bangladesh for a brief visit following an arduous 15-month medical journey in London to treat a brain tumor. The actor, celebrated for his record-breaking performance in the landmark film *Beder Meye Josna*, arrived in Dhaka on Monday after undergoing surgery last August. Due to the high-risk nature of the procedure, surgeons were unable to remove the entire tumor, necessitating a rigorous regimen of chemotherapy that has continued throughout his stay abroad.

His return was marked by a poignant meeting with fellow cinematic legend Alamgir, who visited Kanchan at his Gulshan residence on Tuesday. The two actors, who share a decades-long friendship, spent two hours discussing their health and reflecting on their storied careers. According to Litton Ershad, vice president of the “Nirapad Sarak Chai” movement, the meeting was deeply emotional as Alamgir attempted to help Kanchan recall memories affected by the cognitive challenges stemming from his illness.

Kanchan, who holds the prestigious Ekushey Padak for his contributions to the arts, was accompanied on his journey home by his son-in-law, Ariful Islam Collins. Upon his arrival at the airport, the actor expressed gratitude to his family and fans, stating that he feels well and asking for continued prayers for his recovery.

The homecoming, however, will be short-lived. Medical requirements dictate that Kanchan must return to London before August 14 to undergo a comprehensive follow-up evaluation scheduled for August 15. His family opted to bring him back to Bangladesh for these few days to satisfy his deep longing for home, though he remains under strict medical supervision as he continues his battle against the condition.
