Eight killed, 25 injured in head-on bus collision on Dhaka-Sylhet highway

At least eight people were killed and 25 others injured Friday morning following a head-on collision between two passenger buses on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in the Osmaninagar area of Sylhet.

The collision occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. near the Kashikapan area when a Sylhet-bound Bengal Paribahan bus collided with a Dhaka-bound Unique Paribahan bus. According to accounts from witnesses and police, the force of the impact caused the Unique Paribahan vehicle to veer off the road and plunge into a roadside ditch.

Officer-in-Charge of Osmaninagar Police Station, Golam Mostafa, confirmed the fatalities and noted that the emergency response operation began immediately following the crash. While officials have verified the death toll, the identities of those killed and injured have not yet been released.

Local authorities and emergency responders mobilized to the scene to conduct rescue efforts. The injured passengers were transported to the Sylhet M.A.G. Osmani Medical College Hospital, where many remain under medical care. Investigation into the exact cause of the collision is ongoing.
