American actress Kaylee Hottle, who rose to international prominence for her performance in the “Godzilla” film franchise, has died at the age of 18 following a fatal car accident in Maryland. Authorities confirmed that the collision took place early Tuesday morning in Frederick County.
According to the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, the vehicle lost control and veered off the road with three occupants inside. Hottle, the only fatality in the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 19-year-old, sustained minor injuries and is reported to be in stable condition. Preliminary investigations by local police suggest that excessive speed was the primary factor in the accident.
Hottle gained widespread recognition for her role as Jia in the 2021 thriller “Godzilla vs. Kong.” She reprised the role earlier this year in the sequel, “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” earning further acclaim for her portrayal. During an interview with “Good Morning America” in March, the young actress spoke about her career, noting how her classmates celebrated seeing their friend share the screen with cinematic icons like King Kong.
The news of her passing has prompted an outpouring of grief from her family and community. In a poignant video message delivered in American Sign Language, Hottle’s father, Joshua Hottle, expressed his heartbreak while traveling to Maryland, stating he was on a flight he never wanted to have to take.
Her school issued a formal statement on social media, describing the loss as irreparable. The institution extended its deepest condolences to her family, friends, and peers as they navigate what they characterized as an incredibly difficult period of mourning.
