Film producer Mirza Abul Bashar Mamun arrested for multi-million taka fraud; actress Bobby denies links to suspect

Dhaka police have arrested film producer and businessman Mirza Abul Bashar Mamun on charges of widespread fraud and embezzlement. Authorities took him into custody late Friday night following an operation in the capital’s Gulshan area, where he had been evading law enforcement.

According to Gulshan Division Additional Deputy Commissioner Al Amin Hossain, the arrest follows numerous allegations against Mamun involving the misappropriation of millions of taka. The accused reportedly defrauded victims under the pretexts of providing employment, securing business investments, facilitating vehicle sales, and managing cattle trade for the Qurbani festival. Police located Mamun hiding within the false ceiling of a bathroom during a raid led by Gulshan Police Station’s operation officer, Md. Mizanur Rahman. He is currently being held at the station for further interrogation.

Following the arrest, social media and several news outlets alleged that Mamun was apprehended at the residence of actress Yamin Haque Bobby and characterized the businessman as her husband. The actress has since issued a stern rebuttal, labeling the reports as entirely false, malicious, and defamatory.

In a formal statement, the actress denied having any personal or professional relationship with Mamun, asserting that she does not even own or reside in a property in the area mentioned in the reports. She expressed profound dissatisfaction with the media outlets that published the claims without verifying the facts or seeking her comment prior to publication.

“If I were to enter into a sacred union like marriage, I would certainly announce it myself,” the actress stated, emphasizing that she intends to take appropriate legal action against the platforms responsible for spreading the misinformation. She further stated that she maintains faith in the integrity of the broader press but will not tolerate attempts to tarnish her reputation through fabricated narratives.

Before his arrest, Mamun himself addressed the rumors in a video statement, categorically denying any familial, business, or professional ties to the actress and describing the reports linking them as politically or personally motivated attempts to mislead the public. Law enforcement officials confirmed that investigations into the various fraud cases filed against Mamun remain ongoing.
