Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt has officially joined the cast of the highly anticipated sequel, “Tumbbad 2,” producer and actor Sohum Shah announced on Tuesday. The collaboration was unveiled through a social media post featuring the two stars dressed in black, signaling the start of a new chapter for the acclaimed horror-fantasy franchise.
The production team, which previously confirmed a December 3, 2027, theatrical release, has been steadily building anticipation through a series of cryptic social media updates and a haunting motion poster. Sohum Shah, who has described the project as a deeply personal endeavor, noted that the sequel aims to expand upon the atmospheric world established in the 2018 original. The film intends to preserve the signature mythological dread while introducing a fresh narrative scope and new dimensions to the story.
Directing the sequel is Rahi Anil Barve’s frequent collaborator, Aadesh Prasad. The project is being jointly produced by Sohum Shah Films and Pen Studios, with Pen Marudhar handling distribution. Alongside Bhatt and Shah, the cast will feature acclaimed actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui in a pivotal role.
The original “Tumbbad” garnered significant critical acclaim and cult status upon its release for its unique visual storytelling and atmospheric tension.
