Another person named Shahid Hossain Hriday (30) has been arrested in connection with the fire in the storeroom of the Directorate of Primary Education in the capital’s Mirpur. Four people were arrested in connection with the fire. All of them are employees of that institution, said the police.
Shaheed Hossain was arrested from Mirpur area during a raid on Saturday night. He is a data entry operator in the Department of Primary Education.

The three arrested earlier are the cleaners (master roll) of the Directorate of Primary Education. Asmaul Islam (30), research officer and store in charge. The investigating officer of the case, Mirpur Model Police Inspector Rajib Hossain, remanded them for seven days and applied for interrogation. After the hearing, the court granted a four-day remand.
The case was filed under the Special Powers Act at the Mirpur Model Police Station last Friday in connection with the fire. Assistant Director of the General Administration Branch of the Department of Primary Education. Sajjad Hossain filed the case as the plaintiff.

According to the statement of the case, CCTV (closed circuit) camera footage showed that between 2:00 pm and 4:30 am on Thursday, a man wearing a burqa opened the lock of the temporary storeroom on the second floor of the new building of the Department of Primary Education and entered. The person entered the room a total of five times and took out some belongings and a laptop. The last time he left, he set the room on fire and ran away.
Police say that after the theft, the fire was deliberately set to damage the laptop and other goods in the storeroom. A male cleaner named Asmaul Islam wearing a burqa set the fire there. A contract of five lakh taka was made with him to set the fire. 80 thousand cash was given to him. With that money he bought various fire-making materials. Basically four-five people of that organization planned to set fire. The primary education department suffered a loss of two to three crore rupees due to the fire. Efforts are underway to recover the stolen goods.
On the other hand, it has been stated in the statement of the case regarding the damages, that fire was set in the second floor storeroom of the Directorate of Primary Education between 2:00 pm and 4:30 am on Thursday. There were 735 laptops in that storeroom. 140 laptops were found completely burnt in the fire. Apart from this, 33 were partially and 29 more damaged. 450 laptops were found in good condition but 83 laptops were not found. Laptop bags and other equipment were also destroyed.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Mirpur Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mostak Sarkar held a press conference last Saturday night regarding the fire incident. He said the laptops were kept in the storeroom for field distribution. The reason why the fire was set there is being investigated. The investigation is going on with many issues in front. The details will be known in the intensive interrogation of the accused.
