People are more interested in politics than studies and sports: Speaker

Commenting that people are more interested in politics than education and sports, Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said that Bangladesh became independent because of political interest. And when the autocracy is oppressing the people, at that time the students and youth took to the streets on behalf of the people and introduced the democratic system again.
The speaker said this in response to questions from journalists during a stopover at Barisal Circuit House on Thursday afternoon before visiting his district Bhola.
Hafiz Uddin Ahmad said, without democracy, the liberation or prosperity of the country is impossible, so it is possible to achieve the economic progress of the country by establishing the democratic system more firmly. The parliament formed through fair elections will be able to take the country forward.
Speaker said, “I noticed a good side of politics. Through this, the awareness of the common people has increased. Their interest in democracy has increased. It will take Bangladesh a lot further.
After 16 years of dictatorship, the students and common people took to the streets and brought an end to the mafia, the speaker said, “It is a glorious chapter for Bangladesh. I wish that the democratic system of this country will be more firmly established on the soil of the country.
Brave freedom fighter Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said, “Parliament has been formed through a fair and impartial election. Hopefully, this parliament will be able to take Bangladesh forward.
Earlier the Speaker reminisced about his childhood days in Barisal. On reaching Barisal, the Speaker was given a guard of honor in front of the Circuit House. Later he left for Bhola from there.
