Professor Mohammad Nazmuzzaman Bhuiyan appointed as new chairman of Public Service Commission

Professor Mohammad Nazmuzzaman Bhuiyan has been appointed as the new chairman of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC). The Ministry of Public Administration issued an official order confirming the appointment on Wednesday.

Professor Bhuiyan, a faculty member in the Department of Law at the University of Dhaka, succeeds Professor Mobasser Monem, who recently resigned from the position.

The appointment was made by the President of Bangladesh under the authority granted by Article 138(1) of the Constitution. According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration, the appointment was finalized in the public interest.

Under the terms of his tenure, as stipulated by Article 139(1) of the Constitution, Professor Bhuiyan will serve for a five-year term from the date of his inauguration, or until he reaches the age of 65, whichever occurs earlier.

The position had become vacant following the resignation of Professor Mobasser Monem. Professor Monem had been appointed to lead the constitutional body in October 2024, following the transition to the interim government.

The PSC underwent a significant leadership overhaul following the mass uprising in 2024, which led to the resignation of the former chairman, Md. Sohrab Hossain, along with 12 other commission members. The government subsequently appointed Professor Monem, from the University of Dhaka’s Department of Public Administration, to oversee the commission during that period.
