Body of missing tourist recovered from Coxs Bazar beach two days after drowning incident

Police recovered the body of a tourist from Sonadia beach in Maheshkhali upazila, Cox’s Bazar, on Friday morning, ending a two-day search following a drowning incident. The victim, 23-year-old Ibrahim Khan, a resident of Dhaka and an employee at a private firm, had been missing since Wednesday afternoon.
Ibrahim and his cousin, 25-year-old Mohammad Yasin, disappeared while swimming at Sugandha beach on Wednesday at approximately 2:15 p.m. According to witnesses, the two men were part of a group of five who were swept away by powerful waves. While Sea-Safe lifeguards managed to recover Yasin shortly after the incident, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital.
Imtiaz Ahmed, regional manager of the Sea-Safe lifeguard team, stated that search operations for Ibrahim continued until his body surfaced during high tide at approximately 6:00 a.m. on Friday. Local residents spotted the body and alerted authorities, prompting officers from the Maheshkhali Police Station to retrieve the remains and transport them to the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue.
Sheikh Mohammad Ali, officer-in-charge of the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station, confirmed that the body is currently being held at the hospital. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed before the remains are formally released to the family.
