Two dead following fatal stabbing incident at Coxs Bazar hotel bar

A stabbing incident at a hotel bar in Cox’s Bazar has resulted in the deaths of two men, local authorities confirmed on Friday.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Renaissance Hotel in the Jhautala area of the city. According to police, 28-year-old Nazibul Haque, a resident of the Nunierchara area, was stabbed to death following an altercation with a friend, 28-year-old Salman Mia, while the two were drinking with a group of friends at the hotel bar.
Authorities reported that the dispute escalated quickly, leading Salman Mia to stab Nazibul Haque repeatedly. Nazibul was pronounced dead at the scene. Following the incident, relatives of the deceased arrived at the hotel and reportedly assaulted Salman Mia before dragging him to the Nunierchara area.
Police intervened to take Salman Mia into custody, and he was transported to the 250-bed Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital at approximately 1:00 a.m. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment on Friday morning.
Additional Superintendent of Police Ohidur Rahman stated that the department has ordered the temporary closure of the bar pending a full investigation into the incident and its security protocols. Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing bar staff to determine if other individuals were involved in the altercation.
Officer-in-Charge of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Station, Sheikh Mohammad Ali, identified Salman Mia as the leader of a local youth gang. He noted that Salman had multiple prior criminal cases filed against him, including charges related to robbery. Police are continuing to process the crime scene and pursue further legal action regarding the double fatality.
