Chandpur Police Arrest Gold Merchant Pintu Das in Chittagong Over Alleged Fraud

Chandpur police have arrested a local gold trader, Pintu Das, following allegations that he absconded with customers’ pledged jewelry and cash. Law enforcement officials apprehended the 45-year-old on Friday morning at his ancestral home in Dolghat Daspara, located in the Patiya area of Chattogram.
Pintu Das, the proprietor of SK Jewelers and Shilpalay at Akhand Market on Comilla Road in Chandpur, had been missing for more than a week. During this time, both his shop and his rented residence in the Kalibari Mandir area remained locked. His sudden disappearance sparked widespread concern and social media speculation after accusations emerged that he had embezzled funds and misappropriated gold ornaments entrusted to him by clients.
Acting on these reports, Chandpur Model Police initiated an investigation following a general diary filed by the suspect’s landlord, Rasel Khan, on August 22. A police team led by Sub-Inspector Kalam Gazi successfully tracked Das to his family home in Chattogram after identifying leads through a truck driver who allegedly assisted in his escape.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Lutfar Rahman, a police unit from Chandpur Model Station is currently transporting the suspect back to the district by road.
Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman confirmed that while the suspect is now in custody, no formal criminal case has yet been filed against him. Authorities stated that legal proceedings will be initiated once creditors move forward with formal complaints.
