Police arrest woman for assaulting veterinarian in Mymensingh; Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader expelled following incident

MYMENSINGH — Police have arrested a 20-year-old woman in connection with the assault of a veterinarian at his private clinic in Mymensingh city. The suspect, identified as Arfin Rashid, daughter of Harun-or-Rashid from the Maskanda area, was apprehended late Saturday night and is scheduled to be presented in court on Sunday.
The incident occurred Friday evening at Doctors Pet Care, located in an alley adjacent to Zilla School. The veterinarian, Ashikur Rahman, filed a formal complaint, which police subsequently registered as a criminal case. Arfin Rashid is named as the second suspect in the case.
Following the assault, the Mymensingh Metropolitan Chhatra Dal expelled its joint general secretary, Talhazur Rahman, who is named as the primary accused in the case. Authorities have charged a total of three named individuals, along with four to five unidentified suspects.
The assault was captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage that later circulated on social media. The one-minute-and-forty-eight-second video depicts a group, including a woman, entering the clinic. The woman is seen removing her shoe and striking the veterinarian, while Talhazur Rahman is observed recording the attack on his mobile phone before physically assaulting the doctor.
In his complaint, the victim alleged that the accused frequently visited his clinic to demand 500,000 taka in extortion money. When he refused, they allegedly threatened him and his family. The victim stated that on Friday evening, the group pressured him for the money and began beating him when he protested. He further alleged that the suspects disabled the CCTV cameras before continuing the assault with metal rods.
The victim also reported that his employee, Ishan Ahmed, was beaten while attempting to intervene, and that the suspects attempted to forcibly remove his wife, Sajnin Tasnin Siddique, from the premises.
Mohammad Shibirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Mymensingh Kotwali Model Police Station, confirmed the arrest and stated that operations are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the attack.
