Laborer killed in stabbing incident at Bandarban brickfield following dispute over mobile phone

A young man was hacked to death following an altercation at a mango orchard in the Tankabati Union of Bandarban Sadar Upazila on Friday afternoon. Local authorities recovered the victim’s body late Friday night, and a manhunt is currently underway for the primary suspect.
The victim has been identified as Mohammad Nasir, a resident of Maheshkhali Upazila in Cox’s Bazar. Police have identified the suspect as Mohammad Manik, a native of Patiya in Chittagong, who fled the scene immediately after the incident.
According to local representatives and law enforcement, the victim and the suspect were among eight laborers working near the Brickfield Bazar area on the Sualok-Lama road, located 24 kilometers from the district headquarters. Witnesses reported that a dispute erupted at approximately 3:00 p.m. when Manik accused Nasir of failing to return a mobile phone he had borrowed. The argument escalated quickly, resulting in Manik allegedly attacking Nasir with a machete, striking him repeatedly in the neck and killing him instantly.
Tankabati Union Parishad Chairman Mangyang Mro confirmed the details of the incident based on eyewitness accounts, noting that the suspect fled the scene shortly after the attack.
Officer-in-Charge of Bandarban Sadar Police Station, Shahed Parvez, confirmed the recovery of the body on Friday night. He stated that police have launched an operation to apprehend Manik and that the victim’s body will be transported to the morgue for a post-mortem examination.
