Tenth Grade Student Rescued After Being Found Bound in School Washroom in Khulna Dighalia

A tenth-grade student was rescued from a school restroom in Dighalia Upazila, Khulna, on Thursday evening, approximately five hours after classes had ended. The student was discovered by construction workers with her hands, feet, and mouth bound. She is currently receiving medical treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital.

According to police and the victim, the school dismissed classes early at 2:00 p.m. to allow teachers to notify parents about an upcoming meeting regarding academic performance. After concluding a discussion with a teacher about examination matters, the student headed toward the restroom before departing for home. She reported that an assailant struck her from behind before she could enter.

Speaking from the hospital on Friday, the student stated that her attacker covered her mouth and sprayed a substance near her nose, causing her to lose partial consciousness. She recalled feeling sharp pain, later realizing she had sustained lacerations to her hands, and described the attackers as appearing to be under the influence of narcotics. Upon regaining fuller awareness, she discovered she was restrained and heard multiple voices nearby. She eventually managed to draw attention by kicking the restroom door, prompting construction workers building a new wing of the school to break the lock and rescue her.

The student confirmed she did not see her attackers but noted she could identify them by their voices.

The school’s headmaster explained that the institution dismissed students early on Thursday to facilitate home visits regarding the poor performance of recent Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinees. The headmaster reported that although the school is equipped with nine CCTV cameras, two cameras located on the balcony—which might have captured the incident—are currently non-functional. He added that while the student is physically stable, she remains in a state of severe psychological distress.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dighalia Police Station, Hawlader Sanwar Hossain, confirmed that investigators have interviewed the victim. He stated that because the student did not see the perpetrators, specific details remain scarce. Police are currently inspecting the scene and reviewing all evidence. While no formal complaint has been filed by the family yet, authorities are investigating multiple leads, including a potential connection to a financial dispute involving the student’s father. Investigators are also examining the nature of the small lacerations found on the victim’s hands.
