Court Orders Jail for Trio Accused of Abandoning Domestic Workers Body at Dhaka Medical College Hospital

A Dhaka metropolitan court on Friday ordered three suspects to jail in connection with the death of a teenage domestic worker whose body was abandoned outside the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Piyas issued the incarceration order following a petition filed by the investigation officer. The defendants are 35-year-old Mohammad Faisal Ahmed, his wife, 29-year-old Rahema Khatun Reshma, and his father-in-law, 47-year-old ABM Abdur Razzaque.
Sub-Inspector Shah Alam of the prosecution department stated that the investigation officer, Sub-Inspector Mahfuza Akter of Shahbag Police Station, requested the court to keep the suspects in custody pending the completion of the investigation. No bail applications were filed on behalf of the accused.
The victim, Mim Akter, a teenager from Andikut village in Comilla’s Bangra Bazar area, had been employed by the suspects for approximately one year. According to police reports, the victim was subjected to routine physical and mental abuse. Her family alleged that they often heard her crying over the phone while recounting the torture, but they were intimidated by the employers when they attempted to intervene.
On August 13, Faisal reportedly informed the family that Mim had stolen money and absconded with an acquaintance. When the family visited the suspects’ residence on August 17 to inquire about her, they were turned away. The victim’s mother eventually identified her daughter’s body at the Dhaka Medical College morgue on August 20, following assistance from Bangra Bazar and Shahbag police.
Investigators revealed that on August 12, the suspects transported the teenager’s body to the hospital in a CNG-run autorickshaw. Surveillance footage from the hospital shows two men leaving the body on a trolley under the guise of paying the fare and purchasing a ticket before fleeing the scene.
Following the discovery, the suspects abandoned their long-term residence in Narayanganj’s Sanarpar and went into hiding in the Bamail area of Demra. They were eventually apprehended by a special police unit using information technology.
A forensic examination conducted by Dr. Zakia Tasnim of Dhaka Medical College confirmed that the victim sustained multiple injuries prior to her death. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal abuse remains ongoing.
