Two suspected thieves injured by electrocution while attempting to steal power cables at Gazipur plant

An 18-year-old man was hospitalized with severe electrical burns after attempting to steal copper wiring from a power plant under construction in Gazipur. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday in the Kadda area, also left his accomplice injured.

The suspects were identified as Jihad, 18, and his associate, Kamrul. According to authorities, the two men were attempting to cut power lines at the facility when they were struck by a high-voltage current. Jihad suffered significant burns and collapsed at the scene, while Kamrul sustained minor electrical injuries.

Following the accident, Kamrul contacted the national emergency service via the 999 hotline to request urgent medical assistance. Inspector Anwar Sattar, the media and public relations officer for the national emergency service, confirmed that the emergency call prompted an immediate response from the Gazipur Chowrasta Fire Service station.

A rescue team dispatched to the construction site recovered both men and transported them to the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for treatment. Authorities have since launched an investigation into the attempted theft at the power plant.
