The Chinese Embassy in Dhaka and the British High Commission have extended formal congratulations to Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir following his election as the new President of Bangladesh. The diplomatic messages were issued shortly after the official announcement of the election results on Thursday.

The voting process concluded at 5:00 p.m. local time after a three-hour polling window. Chief Election Commissioner announced the final results at 5:20 p.m., confirming that Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, representing the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), secured victory with 255 votes. His opponent, Oli Ahmed—the candidate for an eleven-party coalition—received 88 votes.

The Chinese Embassy published its congratulatory message on its verified social media platform fifteen minutes after the results were declared. In its statement, the embassy emphasized that China attaches significant importance to its relationship with Bangladesh. Beijing expressed its readiness to collaborate closely with the new administration to build a “China-Bangladesh Community with a Shared Future,” aimed at enhancing mutual prosperity for both nations and their citizens.

Shortly thereafter, the British High Commission also released a formal statement offering its sincere congratulations to the President-elect. The High Commission stated that the United Kingdom looks forward to working with President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and the government of Bangladesh to further strengthen the close and enduring partnership shared between the two countries.
