State Minister Shama Obaid Islam Says No Updates Available on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s Proposed India Visit

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam stated on Tuesday that there is no current update regarding Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s scheduled visit to India.
Addressing reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the state minister said she had no information to provide on the status of the visit. She emphasized that any official details regarding the Prime Minister’s foreign travel schedule would be formally announced by his office.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had previously extended an invitation to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for a bilateral visit to New Delhi. Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokespersons confirmed on Sunday that discussions between the two nations regarding the trip have been ongoing for several weeks.
Initial proposals from the Indian government suggested August 21 as a potential date for the visit. Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi has invited the Bangladeshi leader to attend the BRICS summit, which is scheduled to take place in New Delhi on September 12 and 13.
Despite these invitations, Dhaka has stressed the necessity of establishing a favorable environment before the visit can proceed. Bangladesh has officially urged India to take swift action regarding the extradition of individuals currently residing in India who are wanted for prosecution. This list includes former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who faces the death penalty for crimes against humanity, as well as various members of the Awami League and the suspected perpetrators behind the murder of Shaheed Osman Hadi, the convenor of the Inkilab Mancha.
The government of Bangladesh is currently awaiting a formal response from New Delhi regarding these requests for extradition and the creation of an environment conducive to the visit.
