Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir Elected 23rd President of Bangladesh as Muhammad Yunus Extends Congratulations

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been elected as the 23rd President of Bangladesh following a decisive victory in the national parliament. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidate secured 255 votes to defeat his rival, Oli Ahmed, the nominee of an 11-party alliance, who received 88 votes.
Former Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus offered his official congratulations to the President-elect on Thursday evening. In a message posted to his verified social media account, Professor Yunus stated that as an academic, seasoned politician, and person of integrity, Mr. Alamgir’s assumption of the nation’s highest constitutional office would further uphold its dignity.
Professor Yunus highlighted Mr. Alamgir’s political career, which spans more than five decades and remains deeply intertwined with the nation’s history. The Nobel laureate emphasized that his organizational skills, wisdom, crisis-time leadership, and extensive experience working with grassroots communities have established him as a distinct figure in national politics.
Expressing optimism for the country’s trajectory, the former Chief Adviser stated that under the leadership of President-elect Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Bangladesh will continue to advance toward a more prosperous, equitable, and democratic future.
